Use of Blackboard Weekly Quizzes to Increase Student Performance
Abstract: This study examines the effect of weekly online quizzes using the instructional management system, Blackboard, on term acquisition and case application. Participants included graduate students enrolled in pre-service special education teacher training course. The focus of this course is positive behavior support and planning in which students must memorize and apply many behavioral strategies and techniques. Aligned with the weekly introduction of new terms and concepts, students took a short online quiz, aiming to provide mass practice and self-evaluation. Behavioral definitions were presented cumulatively while students identified the correct corresponding terms. The results show a success of fluency building on term acquisition. In addition, such practices increased case application in the final exam.
