These tools provide teachers with the means to make teaching more relevant, multidisciplinary, and interactive. For students, multimedia offers practice in critical thinking, creativity, deep exploration, and thoughtful reflection. This paper discusses three multimedia technologies–digital video, nonlinear multimedia presentations, and Google Earth and some relevant research, and offers classroom examples to illustrate how these powerful tools can enhance the social studies curriculum.
