Mobile Classrooms or One-to-One? Does Implementation Choice Really Make a Difference?
Abstract: Schools are increasingly investing in technology, yet the challenge of how best to make use of this investment to enhance teaching and learning, remains contested. Mobile Learning (mLearning) has been made possible with the proliferation of tablet technology, but within the academic community little research directed at understanding the implementation issues of these devices, has been conducted. This paper presents a case study of teachers' expectations and use of tablet technology within two secondary schools in which different implementation methods have been used. One school used a mobile classroom approach, whereas the second chose a one-to-one implementation. Teachers' expectations and use at each school will be presented and compared, so as to highlight pertinent issues and insights gained while studying different implementation routes.
