A Framework for Web 2.0 Learning Environment to Develop Online Learning and Facilitation Competences of Preservice Teachers

Abstract: The growth of learning with web 2.0 tools and content demands the use of a learning environment to train preservice teachers (PTs) in order to enable them develop online learning and facilitating competences. This paper suggests a framework that uses Bloom’s Taxonomy to model community learning activities into Learn, Understand and Facilitate states. The states are supported by system functions that track PTs’ learning activities, and reward them points to encourage their learner-centered learning. The points trigger an online social incentive mechanism, which assigns a social status and a facilitating role to PTs in order to develop their facilitation competences, and a pairing mechanism, which pairs PTs in difficulties with more resourceful peers for P2P collaboration.
