Abstract: This study explores micro-funding and it’s potential for generating interest and participant buy-in during academic conferences. It examines the manner in which media and the power of collective intelligence offer new modes of engagement for scholars, and support the practice of scholarship. It is the generative collective intelligence that is the driving force the Internet and its interactive capabilities provide such opportunities of interaction. Understanding the dynamics of crowd behavior and the social role of information gains precedence.
