Explorative Study on the Ways of using Blogs and Wikis as Teaching and Learning Tools in Mathematics
Abstract: This study examines the various uses of Blogs and Wikis in Math middle school classes in Lebanon. The various themes that emerged from the data analysis were the following: the ability to use blog and wiki as a tool for communication and posting; students' motivation; online students' ethics, self regulation and responsibility; teacher's overload; technical issues in using blog and wiki in math; and finally blog and wiki pedagogical and non pedagogical advantages and limitations in math uses. The students' usages suggested that they made use of these applications more as communication, collaboration, publishing, and self-image reinforcement tools; while the teacher used them as communication, learning management system, awarding and motivational, and collecting tools. All the participants in this study agreed that the blog and wiki were not used as direct math application tools.
