Abstract: Supportive environments contribute to the mental health of individuals and communities (both local and global). Our study, of the development and delivery of an online mental health promotion course, focused on the following questions: How is capacity for critical mental health promotion awareness developed through an online international learning environment? And how can supportive learning environments reshape mental health support across international borders? Using an action research approach, we explored the work of fourth year nursing students and faculty around the tensions that dominate current mental health promotion. Through online activities students investigated a wide range of mental health promotion issues. Through this reflection we were able to reorient mental health promotion work through network building in ways that may potentially change nursing practice.
