Abstract: This presentation will examine the current state of mobile tools and how they could usher in a refreshing new era of education. However, the “culture of schools” may undermine the “transformative” potential of these devices, in the same way it thwarted the true learning capacities of the printing press. Models of how mobile devices could unshackle student learning will be presented. Opportunities for audience members to participate using their mobile devices will be offered.
