“Namaste” and “Kush Amdeed”: Integrating Digital Media and PBL into a University-based Hindi and Urdu Language Training Program

An innovative university based program leverages a PBL approach, supported by digital media and rich pedagogies, to teach Hindi and Urdu languages, along with cultural competencies to both students and teachers—all within a global context. Supported by several “Star Talk” grants, this program has increasingly relied on the integration of BYOD tools and social media to support authentic language learning and an “immersion” environment. Such activities have led to an opportunity to be recognized as a national leader to model innovative pedagogies and instruction in “targeted” languages.
