Abstract: What are the top ingredients to mixing up a blended learning classroom? Join Marcia Kish as she walks you through the different types of data collection, tools, techniques, and design needed to generate a blended learning classroom. During this hands on workshop, learners will explore the definition of blended learning by view working examples of classrooms. The participants will get a chance to generate a mock blended learning classroom environment during the workshop. The participants will also get a chance to explore the importance of data collection, and the student growth examples of teachers using blended learning. Marcia will provide examples of schools from around the country that she is currently working with and how the data has changed the way the teachers are teaching in the blended learning classroom. The designing, planning, and implementing the blended learning model will also become hands-on learning stations for the participants to explore.

Participants will be able to: Define a working blended learning model Demonstrate ways to collect data that will drive the classroom Create and design a working blended learning environment Implement classroom tools that will enhance, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking within the blended learning classroom.

Topical Outline

The Top Ingredients to a Blended Learning Classroom will be structured in such a way that the participants will be able to visually see a working blended learning classroom environment. Introduction: There will be a five to ten minute introduction explaining the process and expectations of the workshop BackChanneling:There will be a BackChannel set up so that way all participants will have a voice and can add comments, suggestions, links and other materials they might find throughout the workshop Rotations: Participants will travel through different rotations based on a quick needs assessment a the beginning of the training. The participants will rotate every 5 to 10 minutes to a new station to learn about key ingredients in a blended learning environment Questions and Comments: The last five to ten minutes will be dedicated to answering questions about the layout of the workshop and to make answer any questions they might have about blended learning. Marcia Kish presented last year at the OETC on Mixing up the Blended Learning, with more experience working with schools, administrators, and designing a blended learning classroom, Marcia will be able to provide new content and exciting new tools to use for the Blended Learning Classroom.

Prerequisites

Participants should be able to use connect to the internet on their own devices. If possible participants should bring their own headphones.

Qualifications

Marcia Kish has been working and implementing the Blended Learning model across the country and here in Ohio. She has also been working with Columbus City Schools and other suburban schools around central Ohio for the last couple of years. Marcia has presented workshops on Blended Learning at the OETC 2014, ISTE 14, College Campus Technology Conference 14, and Teaching and Learning iPad Conference in North Carolina. Marcia Kish has 16 years of teaching experience. Eleven of those years were working for Worthington City Schools as a classroom and technology teacher. Four years as a professional development coordinator and blended learning coach for DSD Professional Development and one year as a Director of a Blended Learning School here in Central Ohio. Marcia's workshops are all hands-on and differentiated for each type of learner. Her largest professional development workshop contained 75+ teachers. Each teacher walked away learning at their own pace, style, and was able to successfully implement the tools into the classroom setting. As a Blended Learning Coach, Marcia has been working with schools around the country with face to face professional development trainings, and then moving into onsite blended learning coaching, and finally bringing it all together with virtual training sessions.
