Abstract: The presentation will discuss an ongoing study to gather data from undergraduate student perspectives on the use of iPads in the Engineering Graphics classroom and perceived impact on instruction. In addition, students used iPads for internet access to support inquiry, take notes, and create supporting iDraw sketches. . During the semester, the class was divided into two groups. One group had iPads and the other group was provided traditional hard copies of handouts and PowerPoints. Students experiencing the traditional instruction were able to view videos and PowerPoints projected from the instructor station. Students in the iPad group accessed videos individually when desired during class. Data gathered from the online survey identified four common themes - comfort level, ease of use, instructional support and effectiveness, and retention of instruction. Many indicated a preference for access PowerPoints and video when needed in addition to traditional classroom presentation.
