Reframing the presence of online learning communities: A self study
Abstract: New technologies have become an integral part of the instructional infrastructure on most campuses. As online learning daily gains currency, it is important for practitioners to understand how to apply new and emerging educational practices and technologies to enhance online learning experiences. The design of learning communities has been noted in the literature to be a natural fit with the new technologies that are being offered via the Internet (McLellan, 1998; Palloff & Pratt, 1999; Shea, Li, & Pickett, 2006). Guided by Snyder’s (2009) instructional design theory, Creating Online Learning Communities for Adults (COLCA), an iterative process of online course re-design is proposed as a model for self-study.
