Abstract: The purpose of this panel is to begin an open dialogue about the definition and role of context in educational technology research. The presenters in the proposed session contribute expertise in a variety of areas, from teacher preparation and professional development and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) to the development of teachers’ knowledge and practice with respect to integrating technology into science teaching and teaching with social media. After each panelist describes their perspective on context for approximately five minutes each, conference participants are invited to interact with the speakers in the panel in discussion about how they consider context in their research and in the development of theories. Key topics will include descriptions and definitions of context; examples of context being included in research, including and especially with respect to TPACK and the “context” aspect of the TPACK framework.
