Abstract: The purpose of this best practices work is to share a five-week, three-unit curriculum for a high school communication technologies class that utilizes the iPad to effectively teach the principles and practices of sound recording. The resulting project includes three unit plans, 22 lesson plans, accompanying worksheets with answer keys, lab reports with answer keys, and unit tests with answer keys. All materials were developed using the Backward Design Model for curriculum development. These three curricular units are a valuable resource for current high school communication teachers or physics teachers who would like to find productive ways to include the iPad into their curriculum while also teaching principles of sound recording that are currently neglected in secondary classrooms. The free curriculum material can be downloaded from the author’s website: http://www.teachsavvy.com/sound.
