Abstract: In Ireland, the Department of Education and Skills is currently in the process of preparing a Digital Strategy for Schools. As part of this process, a census of ICT in primary, post-primary and special schools in Ireland was carried on behalf of the Department in 2013. The authors of this paper contributed to the design and conducted the analyses relating to the census. This paper focuses on the findings of the census and how they can be used to inform the development of the Digital Strategy for Irish Schools. The UNESCO framework (2008a, 2008b, 2011) is used as a way of organising this discussion and also provides a lens through which to view what being digital in learning can look like in Ireland..
