Abstract: The integration of social media in our daily lives and the lives of our students is a daunting reality. This paper describes how pre-service teachers at the University of Lethbridge were introduced to the potential of using Twitter as a tool for professional development. This paper also discusses how social networking sites like Twitter help pre-service teachers to: develop self-directed professional learning; build connections; and contribute to the professional knowledge base.
