Abstract: This presentation is intended to examine media literacy in the classroom. Media literacy plays a significant role in how children see the world. Children are continually bombarded by media messages whether it stems from YouTube videos, advertisements, TV commercials, Apps or other web based interactions. This in turn affects how they negotiate meaning from text or visual images. Specific instructional strategies are needed to assist students and teachers in media use. These instructional strategies include students examining digital authorship, analyzing contemporary media, and creating their own media messages.
