Share Paper: Approaches to Achieving Equity of Outcomes in Computational Thinking and Coding Education

Abstract: In this presentation we will introduce varied projects designed to bring computer science, broadly construed, into the repertoire of K-8 teachers, girls, and young women. These include teacher education in Computational Thinking and Coding; teacher education in Gender Equitable Teaching Strategies for faculty who work with young women in career and technical education, STEM, or counseling for post secondary pathways; an after-school program for girls aged 10-14; and, a dynamic connected learning model utilizing informal and formal learning opportunities to maximize outcomes from efforts to increase teacher and learner capacity in these areas.
