Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR) when applied in an early childhood classroom. Specifically, the authors experiment with AR in a kindergarten sheltered English-to-Speakers-of-Other-Language (ESOL) classroom, and try to determine its efficacy in improving kindergarten ESOL students’ phonological awareness (PA). Although previous studies have indicated that the AR technology is effective in maintaining a high level of motivation and engagement among kindergarten students, little is known about how the use of AR technology helps kindergarten-age language learners’ phonological awareness development.
