Abstract: Educational games and gamification provide considerable power in education as a valuable tool. Student experience with digital game-based learning (DGBL) and how this affects the level of their learning must be considered. This research proposal reports that a systematic literature review examining the research trends and outcomes in DGBL shows the gaps for future research in higher education contexts. The main aim of this study is to conclude and recommend how and why we might develop the learning environment by implementing game elements in higher education.
