Implications of Assistive Technology and Web Accessibility Tools for Improving Outcomes for Students with High-Incidence Disabilities in Postsecondary Education
Abstract: The current review of the scholarly literature examines the trends in attendance and success of college students with high incidence disabilities such as Specific Learning Disability. This brief paper is a selected review of the literature and is intended to reflect the emerging but limited empirical research base establishing the extent to which computer technology, web accessibility features, and assistive technology might increase the accessibility of the university experience for the current generation of students with disabilities at American colleges and universities. Emerging findings indicating availability of technology but limited use serve as a precursor to a developing a line of research on formal transition experiences to prepare students to fully utilize computer technology resources as they begin their college experience.
