Abstract: New Jersey City University (NJCU) is a public, Minority-Serving Institution and it is well-positioned to contribute to the national efforts to improve education, especially among a significant number of underrepresented urban minority groups. We will address project-based learning and collaborative learning as pedagogical approaches beneficial to the above-mentioned targeted student populations. First, we will highlight the project-based nature of all courses in Ed. Tech on-line Master's and Doctoral programs. In these programs, students collaborate with each other in all stages of the project using Web 2.0 technologies, discussion board, and web-conferencing technologies. E-portfolios are used in Doctoral program to chronicle work over a semester or academic year, as a means of the personal learning environment (PLE)) and fostering self-directed learning and self-assessment. Second, we will discuss the application of strategies outlined above in the undergraduate hybrid STEM courses.
