Abstract: This study looks into the effectiveness of three different methods of high school English teacher education in Japan; a traditional face-to-face workshop, online education through a special website, and the combination of the two. The purpose of doing this comparative research is twofold; first, to improve our present website-based online education system for in-service teachers, and second, to prepare for the introduction of massive open online courses (MOOCs) with supplemental, interactive follow-up study functions so that busy high school English teachers can get high-quality teacher training quite similar to attending outside workshops and will continue their learning without losing motivation. ...
