Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine whether techniques that are commonly used to identify the cause of performance problems in business settings are appropriate to identify barriers to technological integration in an educational setting. Gilbert's Behavioral Engineering Model (BEM) identifies six factors that enhance individual, group and organizational performance: knowledge, capacity, motives, information, resources, and incentives. An online Cause Analysis survey based on Chevalier’s (2007) updated version of Gilbert's BEM indicated that in this particular school, incentives maybe a barrier to the integration of technology. In this session, we will illustrate Gilbert’s model, provide an overview of the methods and findings of this study, and provide copies of the Cause Analysis survey that was used in the study. In this way, technology leaders will be able to adopt the methods used in this study to address gaps in technology performance in their own school setting.
