Inclusive Technology in General Education Classroom: The Extent Science Teachers use Inclusive Technology in Science Classrooms

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent science teachers use technology for inclusion in the general education classrooms in science courses. Participants for the pilot study were 30 male and female science teacher from school districts from the state of Illinois. The results for this pilot study show that very few science teachers used technology for inclusive classrooms in teaching science courses. Only one-third of teachers used and modeled either assistive technology in science classrooms. Results of this study will be replicated at a high level with a large population. Results also indicate that science teachers need professional development due to lack of proper technology preparation, familiarity to inclusive technology at various stages of their training. According to these results, it shows that science teachers use technology for inclusion in the courses needs to be addressed at teacher education levels and state standards.
