Abstract: The accessibility to education and the ease of completing coursework have both grown incrementally over the past decade. This is a positive move forward for both academician and learners worldwide. Advances in technology have made this possible. But, we must ask: Have both “players” in this learning process, the instructors in academia and the learners in society, managed to increase our knowledge about practice of the skills needed to use these new technologies effectively, at a pace incrementally compatible with the increased rate of advancements in technology? A solid foundation of fundamental knowledge, along with well-established critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills, get us started toward optimizing the potential of the newest technologies. In this session, examples of where and how some of these gaps exist; and suggestions are offered on how to begin to bridge the gaps.
