Practice What We Preach: A Revision of an Online Teaching Certification Program
Abstract: Online learning is taking higher education by storm, but are faculty ready for this approach to teaching? In this case, ready means the professor is up-to-date on effective online teaching methods and pedagogical strategies, cognizant of and responsive to online accessibility guidelines, knowledgeable of the basic tools, and competent in their application to make effective use of their learning management system (LMS). In most cases, the answer is “No". The poster describes the process of revising an online teaching certification program (OTCP) course to improve faculty readiness for effective online instruction. A priority of the course revision was to “practice what we preach," by means of presenting a training program that upheld the same standards and guidelines expected of faculty in the development of their online courses.
