Abstract: Preparing future teachers how to teach effectively and engaging learners at high levels involves complex tasks that develop from knowledge and awareness, practice, observation and data collection, followed by analysis and reflection. Observations of teaching episodes and data analysis involve both qualitative (used most often) and quantitative (to a lesser extent). The authors describe how to utilize three different, but synergistic, technologies to provide practice teaching in a virtual environment, then utilize qualitative observations using after-action-review software, followed by quantitative data collection using an app that provides robust measures of teacher questioning and responding, classroom activity and student engagement.
