Abstract: This paper shares and examines findings from a cross case analysis of four instructors’ attempts to develop a sense of community in the online courses they taught in a master’s program in education at a large public institution in the U.S. Midwest. In addition to outlining strategies the instructors implemented, we consider successes and challenges that emerged in doing so and draw implications for instructors of online courses in multiple contexts.
