Abstract: This presentation explores the concept of mindfulness and its place in the field of education. The focus of the presentation will be on the application of mindfulness to online learning environments. In particular, the presentation will highlight the work of an academic librarian and will look at the language of mindfulness as seen during the course of working with online learners using an academic library's virtual reference service at a state university. Excerpts of chat transcripts will be shared to illustrate how a mindfulness approach may be incorporated into the language that educators use as they work with their students in a variety of online learning environments--whether their students are teachers in training or teachers already working in the field.
