A Needs Analysis of Technology Integration across Teacher Preparation Programs at One University
Abstract: A needs analysis approach was implemented to ascertain the current state of technology use and integration across multiple undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs within a university and to formulate recommendations for next steps. As a starting point CAEP accreditation requirements were used to develop an informational presentation for teacher education faculty. A brief survey was collected from faculty immediately following the presentation to learn more about the extent of technology use for teaching and learning and to identify technology related topics of interest for professional development. A checklist of CAEP standards was created and used to facilitate interviews with faculty to determine which standards were being covered in each program. Finally, teacher preparation standards used in writing Specialty Professional Association (SPA) reports were reviewed to identify additional technology requirements being met by programs.
