Innovation Lab: Implementing STEM/STEAM Classes as “Specials” in a Rural Elementary School
Virtual Paper
ID: 52692
Abstract: This virtual paper addresses an innovative approach to integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education as a regular class “special” in an elementary school. With traditional “specials” being gym, art, music, and library, this paper examines a unique pilot where a struggling, rural elementary school implemented a STEM/STEAM course into the weekly rotation of activities. This paper reviews the best practices behind the Innovation Lab program and discusses the future agenda for research.
