Abstract: Attending and presenting at academic and professional conferences is an integral part of graduate professional development work. Graduate students are expected to participate in conferences as a way of establishing their employability and showing a commitment to their fields of study. Research that addresses graduate students’ engagement issues at conferences is limited. This roundtable aims to explore students' experiences and attitudes toward attending conferences. In addition, the discussion will elaborate on the possibility of using a badge-based system as a backchannel to support conference participation and increase engagement among conference attendees.
