Abstract: As an academic subject, art appreciation has recently been given higher priority by Japanese educators. Unfortunately, the conventional display media used in classrooms have proven insufficient for showing artworks to students taking such courses. Virtual reality (VR) offers one means of enriching the teaching materials used to present artwork in art appreciation classes. Existing head-mounted displays (HMD) built into computers impose a minimum age for practical use and thus cannot be used by all middle school students.
