Sustaining Mobile Learning in Autism Classroom Environments
Abstract: Mobile technology is increasingly being implemented in K-12 classrooms in the United States. There has been a burgeoning interest in the impact of mobile technology to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). K-12 classroom teachers are increasingly recognizing the potential of mobile technology to support the learning of students with ASD. The integration of mobile technology is based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), which provides multiple means of representation, expression, and differentiated instructions for students will all types of learning needs. With mobile technology, students with ASD gain knowledge, skills, and understanding of social, behavioral, and academic areas. This presentation outlines the important aspects of Mobile Apps in sustaining students engagement in teaching students with ASD in K-12 classrooms. This presentation will also highlight the use of iOS and Android-based mobile apps in teaching students with ASD in a middle school self-contained classroom.
