Abstract: The world around us is continually evolving as new technologies are created to enhance and improve the human experience. Particularly in educational spaces, technology systems are often designed and introduced to solve persistent challenges and promote learning in the classroom. As increasing monetary and human resources are invested in technologies, research on methods and practices to improve the use and adoption of technology has been a priority for decades. To effectively understand the use and adoption of educational technology, both current and present, it is essential to review the history of technology use and adoption theories. To this end, this paper reviews theories and models presented by researchers such as Ajzen, Fishbein, Triandis, Bandura, Venkatesh, Davis, and Bala to understand the use, adoption, and diffusion of past, present, and future educational technologies.
