Abstract: Peer and faculty interaction in online courses has long been relegated to the depths of repeated posts on stale, overused discussion boards. Authentic discussions have stymied even the most qualified and technologically astute online instructors. To a forlorn instructor, it might seem that authentic community in online courses is a myth never to fully materialize outside of prescribed synchronous meeting times.
