Abstract: This study explored how preservice teachers used social media as an educational tool for professional development. A total of 125 preservice teachers engaged in a teacher education program at a four-year medium sized, suburban public university located along the Gulf Coast, participated in an online survey. Survey results and interviews revealed the social media tools most frequently used, the perceived effectiveness, and how social media was used for teacher development. Findings indicated social media tools such as Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube were the most frequently used by preservice teachers to support their development efforts.
