Abstract: The growing presence of AI in educational settings has brought attention to the need for a renewed vision of technology education in teacher preparation programs. Given the increasing use of AI in K12 classrooms and educational decision making, this study seeks to investigate pre-service’ teachers’ acceptance and intended use of AI tools in their future instruction, their motivation to learn about and engage in discussions of AI, and their prior knowledge of AI topics, providing further guidance for discussions on incorporating AI into teacher education curricula. This study will utilize survey items, including the 2x2 AGQ-R and the UTAUT measures, to investigate pre-service teachers’ perceptions of AI as both an educational tool and relevant topic in education. Results from this study support the development of future AI teacher education programming that is aligned with pre-service teachers’ existing knowledge and views of AI in educational settings.
