Abstract: In what way(s) do manipulatives affect the learning process? Which manipulatives may be most appropriate for online learning? To answer these questions, an Undergraduate Research Fellow (URF) designed and produced 3D mathematics manipulatives, conducted research with several K-3 classes, and received feedback from K-3 teachers across Kentucky. This paper details research conducted by the URF and university mentor with K-3 students regarding use of mathematics manipulatives for counting, tens places, and money skills and best practice manipulatives for these concepts in a virtual environment.
