Abstract: This pilot study performed a close reading of the New York State Computer Science/Digital Fluency (NYSCSLS) in order to determine any coherence (or lack thereof) between the stated goals of these learning standards and the expression of those goals in the standards themselves. This analysis revealed some areas of coherence, especially in terms of the areas of computer science and digital fluency that are prioritized. Also identified was an incoherence between a vision for including all students in the learning of CS and a focus on interdisciplinary curriculum design, any language pertaining to either of which are missing from the learning standards themselves. Implications for curriculum design and teacher practice are discussed.
