Abstract: Online discussion forums can provide positive learning experiences. There is a desire for interaction in the online environment, but students often find discussion forums lacking in depth while instructors often struggle to find methods of assessment. The purpose of this study was to provide a comparison of ratings by two evaluators of discussion forum posts to assess the learning and application of content by students. Evaluators assessed a prescribed number of discussion forums within four different courses of two graduate programs. Results showed that through the progressive participation in discussion forums, an increase in the ability to apply content knowledge was attained.
