Framework to Support Individual Learners in Diverse Learning Ecologies
The university department that the author works for has had an online degree provision since 2004. In that time and in response to the changing needs and requirements of our online students, the author led the development of a framework for individual learners. The framework has been used in the design of the department’s online programmes of study for the past four and more recently a hybrid distance/face to face mode of study. It has proved successful; the framework has been published in peer reviewed publications and is about to be rolled out to support the design and development of online programmes across the university. The framework is comprised of three constructs, Narratives, Tasks and Resources. These are used to support tutors in the conception and design of learning experiences. Whilst the framework is independent of technology, it also provides guidance on mapping learning designs to types of technologies. It is this aspect of the framework that the best practice session proposed here would focus on.
