Biography

Diane W. Birckbichler (Professor of French and Director of the Ohio State University Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures) has been involved in a variety of leadership positions in foreign language study, among them President, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages; Board Member, Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, and the Advisory Editorial Board, American Association of University Coordinators. She has extensive administrative and fiscal experience through a variety of positions and has overseen and administered multiple grants over the past twenty years. She has considerable experience in program evaluation, including multiple presentations and a monograph devoted to the subject. Further, she has been involved in major technology initiatives in foreign language teaching at The Ohio State University, including leadership in the design and conceptualization of OSU’s World Media and Culture and in the development of OSU’s Multimedia Computer Adaptive Placement Tests in French, German and Spanish. She leads the OSU’s Center for Language, Literatures and Cultures’ technology team whose most recent accomplishment was the design and conceptualization of The Space, our digital collaborative learning classroom. She is the author of more than 25 high school and college French textbooks and accompanying ancillary materials as well as articles and reviews in professional journals. She has given more than 75 keynote addresses, lectures, and workshops at state, national and international conferences.
