Biography

Jennifer will be earning a Master's of Arts in Education with a concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from New Mexico State University in May 2016. She earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Spanish from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2014.

Jennifer's background includes experience in teaching and tutoring adult English Language Learners. Most recently, she has held workshops and one-on-one tutoring sessions at the Quintana Learning Center at Doña Ana Community College (DACC) in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She has covered basic and intermediate literacy and communication curricula. Jennifer is bilingual and bi-literate in English and Spanish and holds a tutoring certification through Literacy Volunteers of Doña Ana County. Jennifer will be teaching an elective course for adult English language learners at DACC in the summer of 2016. The course will focus on understanding and creating everyday social contexts through online tools.

In 2013, Jennifer coordinated adult ELL workshops in Granada, Spain, through the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas. Students engaged in collaborative writing activities on computers to practice figures of speech, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Jennifer is passionate about teaching the importance of effective communication and acquiring English in low-stress environments.

Jennifer plans to join NMSU's Interdisciplinary doctoral program in adult EFL education by 2018.

Areas of interest: Adult EFL and ESL education, engaged learning communities, action research, integrating technology in the classroom, equitable new language acquisition
