Associate Chair Election Results

Posted March 4, 2015 4:34 p.m. by KathrynLee

Congratulations to Dr. Teresa Petty, our new Associate Chair! Thank you also to the other candidates who participated in the election. A very special “thank you” to Jean Kiekel, for her past service as Associate Chair.

Dr. Teresa Petty is an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She serves as Graduate Director of the Master of Arts in Teaching Program for Middle Grades and Secondary Education. She coordinates the online programs for her department. Dr. Petty's research interests include National Board Certification, online teaching and learning and mathematics education. In collaboration with colleagues, Dr. Petty has developed and implemented several online programs at UNC Charlotte. She was instrumental in leading the effort to place the Graduate Certificate in Teaching program online. For this program, she worked to develop and implement a remote observation process so that teacher candidates geographically removed from the university could access this program. She also worked with colleagues to develop a method for candidates to observe practicing teachers from a distance.

A collaborative research interest emerged during our SIG discussion (20 folks in attendance): investigating Instructional Design Professional Development (IDPD) models across universities. Other related ideas included examining the relationship (tension?) between instructional designers and faculty in co-designing online courses and considering Learning Management Systems as authoring tools. We will continue the conversation on our blog:
